Return a sale
Review an item-based or amount-based return on a recorded sale.
Platform · Last verified:
Starting route: /sales
Required access: The return action depends on the sale state and your role.
- Find the sale on Sales → Records and open its detail. When a return is available, Return opens Return Sale.
- For a By Item return, select the sale item and the returnable quantity. To return only a monetary amount, use By Amount and enter an amount or percentage.
- Add a return reason if needed. Review the selected amount, net total after return, cash or card refund, and debt reduction in the preview.
- Select Return Selected Items or Return Amount to complete the action. Reopen the sale to inspect its updated return state and review the customer account activity.
An amount-based return does not change stock or product quantities. Use /inventory/products/[fp] to inspect product stock and /sales/collections to inspect payment activity. Confirm the correct sale and returnable amount before starting.
Example and limits
If two items were sold and one physically returned, select the correct unit and one returnable item in an item return. A price adjustment uses a different amount-based operation and does not add stock.
Previously returned quantities/amounts cannot be returned again. Clinical or signed-record links may impose conditions; resolve the displayed failure instead of bypassing it with another record. Read cash refund and debt reduction separately.
Compare the updated sale, customer movement and relevant stock movement. External cash/bank transfer must also happen in reality; a saved record alone does not prove it. See money concepts and payment issues.
